The defining work of Harold Waldwin Percival is Thinking & Destiny, undoubetedly.  However, each of his books does deserve special attention as each elaborates on a specific point addressed within T&D.

Democracy is Self-Government explains why we can never have a true Democracy in this world until we literally govern ourselves from within.  Which is to say “govern our Self, from within.”  When the majority of the individuals existing within the political borders of a given region each are goverened from within, then that political region would be able to experience a true Democracy.  Presently, American is the closest thing this world has to a Democracy, though America is in no way a true Democracy.

In a true Democracy, there would be no political parties.  Party politics divides the people, plain and simple.  The division of the people should be avoided.  Sadly, one of the only things that unifies us, as a people, is a common enemy; be it people not geographically near to us or people with different beliefs, or an abstraction like “terrorism” or even something tangible like drugs.  Whatever the case may be, the fact is that we only unify in opposition to a common enemy.  The reason for this?  We are not Self-governed.

By and large, we are governed by fear.  We are reactionary.  We want for ourselves that which we would deny the next person from having.  Whether we admit it or not.  This is not a commentary on America, this is a commentary on human beings.  America happens to have a toehold on moving in the proper direction, but that toehold is tenous, at best.  Once you choose to govern yourself, from within, you will manifest that in the external world and you will see your Government change.  Government change; that’s a topic for another day.

I have drifted off-course of what this book is truly about, however anyone intersted in the theme of this blog, as a whole, should read this book.  It is available for purchase, or as a free .pdf download, at: http://word-foundation.org/b-Democracy_is_Self_Government.htm

What if, when your physical body dies it become necessary to pass through certain after-death states.  What if one of those states was necessary in order to seperate one Self from it’s lower feelings and desires.  What if, when it was time for that Self to incarnate again that it was reunited with those exact feelings and desires in order to then proceed on with the process of balancing the thoughts that birthed said feelings and desires throughout the next physical life.

If that were true, then where would those feelings and desires exist whilst separated from the Self that they are fundamentally a part of?  For the period of time in which that purified Self was at rest, between lives, or existing in a place sometimes termed “heaven,” by those who don’t have another word for such a place?

Well, since we’re playing the “what if” game… what if each of those feelings and desires were to manifest on the physical plane as the physical form, or manifestation, of itself.  What if some feelings were to manifest as trees or grass… what if some desires manifested as animals, and vice versa.  What if feelings of rage manifested as boars or lions.  What if feelings of love manifested as flowers.  What if desires of domination manifested as certain species of ape and what if feelings of deceit manifested as, say, sharks.  What if feelings of loyalty manifested as dogs and narcissistic desires manifested as cats.  What if that is the exact reason we sometimes use animal references when pointing out character flaws in others… men are often called “pigs.”

What if, when it is time for the Self that any given manifested feeling or desire is attached to is ready to reincarnate, each manifested feeling or desire must immediately abandon the physical form in which it resides.  If that were true, maybe it explains why sometimes animals run in front of automobiles.  That deer must vacate that physical form in order to join the Self to which it is an expression of for another ride on the merry-go-round of life as a human being.  What if each one of those feelings and desires is but playing it part on it’s own way to becoming a conscious Self which would then generate feelings and desires of its own that would then manifest physically as the flora, fauna and animals of the Earth inhabited by the physical bodies of the Self to which it is attached.

If that were true, everything would be connected to everything.  Imagine that.
